What is the fee of registering my Will?

We charge a one time fee of HK$580 for each Will Registration.

Why should I register my Will and what are the advantages of registering a Will?

By registering a Will, the location of your original Will would be made known to your Executor(s) and or Beneficiary(ies) without the need of "treasure hunting" after your passing. Additional information and wishes could also be retrieved. It can facilitate easy administration and reduce the hassle caused to your loved ones.

What happens if I do not register my Will?

Your Will may not be found or it may take a long time before it can be located, hence causing delay and financial difficulties to your loved ones.

How do I register my Will with The Hong Kong Will Registry?

You would first need to open an account with us and choose from our service options and make a payment. Upon confirmation you would need to follow the steps to complete your Will Registration (with an option of inputting additional information and wishes on a complimentary list), as well as confirming whom you would be giving permission to for access to your information.

What are included in the complimentary list?

Details including bank accounts, MPF and life insurance are included. Further, a very comprehensive 'Funeral Wishes' is also included where you can plan for your own funeral during your lifetime.

How long does it take to Register a Will?

It takes around 20 minutes to register your Will.

Can I save the information if I do not complete my registration in one go?

Yes, you can save your information by re-logging in into your account and complete the registration at a later time.

Do I need to upload my Will document?

No, we do not need you to upload your Will document. People you have granted access to would be able to locate your Will and retrieve your information as long as you have registered your Will with clear information.

Who has access to the Will information I have registered with The Hong Kong Will Registry?

When you register your Will with us you would have an option to choose who has access to your information upon your passing. Our verification process means searchers would need to have personal details (Full name, HKID number, Date of Birth) of executor(s) and/ or beneficiary(ies) matched with the information on our database alongside a copy of your death certificate.

What happens if I have updated my Will and subsequently need to update my Will registration?

You would need to re-login into your account with us and follow the steps to make a payment and have your information updated.

What security measures do you have in place to ensure that the information are secured safely and confidentiality is kept?

Encryption and multi-factor authentication means that the WIll you have registered in our database is secured safely and confidentiality kept at the highest level. Your information are not shared with third parties.

How long are Registration stored in our database?

There is no time limit on the storage of your Will registration.

Can I Register a Will if I have not written a Will?

As part of the Will Registration, the location of the Will would need to be stated. Therefore, it is essential that you would need a Will before having it registered. Meanwhile, we would strongly suggest that you have a Will written as it is important to have your wishes expressed, your assets distributed in accordnace to your wishes, as well as avoiding possible family disputes. What inspired our founder in creating The Hong Kong Will Registry?

Having years of experience in the area of Wills and Estates, our founder has encountered countless number of clients who were unable to locate the Wills of their family members, or the Wills might not have been made known. By developing The Hong Kong Will Registry, we aim to provide family members with a peace of mind of where the location of Wills could be found upon successful searches, alongside supporting information regarding assets and funeral wishes. These expedite the entire estate administration process and reduce the period of time which the deceased's estate is frozen.

Is guardianship arrangement included in the registration of my Will?

Guardianship arrangements should in theory be stated in your Will and as part of the Will Registration, the location of your Will will need to be indicated. Therefore, there is no specific requirement to register guardianship arrangement as long as the Will could be located. Please get in touch with our team should you require assistance with the appointment of guardians.

Are my funeral wishes included in the registration of my Will?

Yes, you will be able to include your funeral wishes and instructions as part of your Will Registration. You may also want to inform your family separately so wishes are clearly expressed.

What is the fee of searching for a Will?

We charge a one time fee of HK$1,800 for each Will Search.

How does the Will Search works?

In order to perform the Will Search, you would need to open an account with us and enter the personal details (Full name, HKID number, Date of Birth) of the testator, executor(s) and/ or beneficiary(ies) . Details have to match with our database before results may be found. Results also depend on the testator's permission and there are circumstances when a copy of the testator's (deceased's) death registration is required. You would need to make the search payment before a search can be done.

What if there is no result found when I try to search for a Will?

It may be possible that no result is found and this might be due to various reasons. Therefore, we would recommend testators to inform their executor(s) about their Will and that they have registered their Will with us.

Can I save the information from my search result?

Upon successful verification, you will be sent with a link where you may be able to access the information of your search.

Is it safe to have my information stored with The Hong Kong Will Registry?

Information encrypted and stored in our database is secured safely and confidentiality is kept at the highest level. Your information will not shared with third parties.

Who can search for my Will?

Anyone could search for your Will, however access is only granted to searcher(s) with personal details matched with that on our database.

I entered wrong information in the Will Search hence no result was found. What should I do at that point?

A new search order would need to be submitted.
