What is the fee of registering my Will?

We charge a one time fee of HK$580 for each Will Registration.

Why should I register my Will and what are the advantages of registering a Will? 
By registering a Will, the location of your original Will would be made known to your Executor(s) and or Beneficiary(ies) without the need of "treasure hunting" after your passing. Additional information and wishes could also be retrieved. It can facilitate easy administration and reduce the hassle caused to your loved ones. 
 
What happens if I do not register my Will?
Your Will may not be found or it may take a long time before it can be located, hence causing delay and financial difficulties to your loved ones.
 
How do I register my Will with The Hong Kong Will Registry?
You would first need to open an account with us and choose from our service options and make a payment.  Upon confirmation you would need to follow the steps to complete your Will Registration (with an option of inputting additional information and wishes on a complimentary list), as well as confirming whom you would be giving permission to for access to your information.
 
What are included in the complimentary list?
Details including bank accounts, MPF and life insurance are included. Further, a very comprehensive 'Funeral Wishes' is also included where you can plan for your own funeral during your lifetime.  
 
How long does it take to Register a Will?
It takes around 20 minutes to register your Will.
 
Can I save the information if I do not complete my registration in one go?
Yes, you can save your information by re-logging in into your account and complete the registration at a later time.
 
Do I need to upload my Will document?
No, we do not need you to upload your Will document. People you have granted access to would be able to locate your Will and retrieve your information as long as you have registered your Will with clear information.
 
Who has access to the Will information I have registered with The Hong Kong Will Registry?
When you register your Will with us you would have an option to choose who has access to your information upon your passing.  Our verification process means searchers would need to have personal details (Full name, HKID number, Date of Birth) of executor(s) and/ or beneficiary(ies) matched with the information on our database alongside a copy of your death certificate.
 
What happens if I have updated my Will and subsequently need to update my Will registration?
You would need to re-login into your account with us and follow the steps to make a payment and have your information updated.
 
What security measures do you have in place to ensure that the information are secured safely and confidentiality is kept?
Encryption and multi-factor authentication means that the WIll you have registered in our database is secured safely and confidentiality kept at the highest level.  Your information are not shared with third parties.
 
How long are Registration stored in our database?
There is no time limit on the storage of your Will registration.
 
Can I Register a Will if I have not written a Will?
As part of the Will Registration, the location of the Will would need to be stated.  Therefore, it is essential that you would need a Will before having it registered.  Meanwhile, we would strongly suggest that you have a Will written as it is important to have your wishes expressed, your assets distributed in accordnace to your wishes, as well as avoiding possible family disputes.  If you require advice or assistance with Will-writing, please get in touch with us and our team will provide support for you.
