About Us

The Hong Kong Will Registry provides Will Registration and Will Search services in Hong Kong to the public and the profession in Hong Kong. Being the first registry of offering these services in Hong Kong, our goal is to ensure that no Will is left untraced when it is required, reducing possible uncertainties and pressure caused to families.
Our registry was developed by professionals from the legal and information technology industries.  We aim to provide a user-friendly registry where both Will Registration and Will Search could be achieved through simple procedures.

Our Founder

Amy Kwan

The Hong Kong Will Registry was developed by Ms. Amy Kwan, a practising solicitor in Hong Kong and a qualified solicitor admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland, Australia. She is also the founder and CEO of Good Wills H.K. Ltd. - a Will-writing company established in 2018 in Hong Kong. Before setting up her own company, Amy already holds extensive knowledge and experience in Will-writing, estate administration and related matters.  She is also a consultant solicitor at a law firm in Hong Kong where she handles other legal matters.

In addition, Amy spends a lot of time in volunteering as a solicitor by working closely with various District Council members in providing complimentary legal advice to support the needs of the community.  To further develop her involvement and interest for her clients in their preparation before and after their passing, Amy has continued her career development to study as a Funeral Director.  Through her work, she has received positive feedback from the community as well as her clients.

Throughout Amy's career, she realises the importance of having a Will, a Will that correctly reflects the deceased’s wishes and intention. It is her goal to change the public’s perception about Will – a Will is not just for the wealthiest or the eldest, it is an extremely useful tool that everyone should have throughout different stages in life.  With the development of The Hong Kong Will Registry, Amy is dedicated to support her clients and their families in managing their wishes and that they are stored in a secured place to be traced when required, providing clients with a peace of mind where personal information and last wishes are well protected.

Possible Scenarios

Smiling Portrait

Case scenario 1: Mrs. Cheung

Background

Mrs. Cheung was 86 years old when she passed away. She had 3 sons and a daughter and died without a Will. She had a real property which was paid for by the eldest son while her living expenses was paid for by the daughter. Mrs Cheung had 3 bank accounts and a small amount of jewellery.

Outcome

Mrs. Cheung mentioned to her friends that as her property was paid for by her eldest son, she intended to 'return the property to her eldest son'; she also wanted to 'leave something for her daughter' as she was the only one who paid for her living expenses. However, as Mrs. Cheung did not leave a Will, according to the laws, including the real property, would be equally divided between her 4 children. Her eldest son strongly disagreed with this. The 4 children have been at odds since then.

Depending on the situation, we would recommend:

1. Make a Will based on Mrs. Cheung’s wishes on distribution

2. Register the Will

Case scenario 2: Mr. Ng

Background

Mr. Ng was 50 years old when he passed away,  he was married with 2 children who are university students. Mr. Ng  was a typical 9-5 wage earner. His main assets were MPF and bank accounts.

Outcome

Mr. Ng unfortunately died in a traffic accident on his way to work. During his lifetime, he felt that he was still young, had a simple background, and did not own many assets, hence he never considered setting up a Will. Unexpectedly, as there was no Will, it took his wife 1 year+ to handle the probate, and the whole family fell into financial difficulties.

Depending on the situation, we would recommend:

1. Set up a simple Will

2. Register the Will
